Leaders from Poland and Japan to discuss energy transformation and cooperation

Entrepreneurs, scientists and opinion leaders will meet at the “Energy transformation – from local to global” conference to be held on February 28, 2022 in Warsaw. They will talk about cooperation in the area of energy transformation, which is necessary to address the key challenges of the first half of the 21st century.

The event will be organized by the Jagiellonian Institute together with the Japanese Embassy in Poland. “Cooperation in the area of energy transformation will be an important element of our bilateral relationship. This is one of the priorities for me as an ambassador to Poland. We have a lot in common. Both our countries are committed to an open and free system of trade and cooperation,” says Akio Miyajima, Japanese ambassador to Poland.

The conference will focus on the global outlook for the energy transformation in the context of cooperation between Poland and Japan, as well as between regions of Europe and East Asia. The purpose of the event is to present different perspectives, including the role of technologies such as onshore and offshore wind energy, nuclear energy, hydrogen technologies, energy storage, and CCSU/CR. “Today, no one is asking “if”, but “how” to pivot our economies to meet such challenges as decarbonizing industry. These complex issues are best worked out together, learning from each other, and exchanging technological expertise. Japan and Poland are great partners for such cooperation,” said Marcin Roszkowski, President of the Jagiellonian Institute.

The conference will bring together leaders from various communities, including the Polish government, entrepreneurs, experts, and scientists. They are people who have a real influence on the energy transformation. Among the speakers who have confirmed their attendance are:

  • Jun Arima – Project Professor, Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Tokyo;
  • Keigo Akimoto – Chief Researcher, Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE);
  • Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński – Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Climate and Environment;
  • Adam Gawęda – Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy; in 2019–2020, Secretary of State in the Ministry of State Assets, Member of the Sejm;
  • Wojciech Hann – CEO of Bank Ochrony Środowiska S.A.;
  • Jakub Kupecki – Head of the Center for Hydrogen Technologies (CTH 2 ), Institute of Power Engineering;
  • Kamila Tarnacka – attorney-at-law, specialist in renewable energy sources;
  • Tomoho Umeda – CEO of Hynfra.
  • The event will be opened by Akio Miyajima, the Japanese ambassador to Poland. Speakers will take part in three expert panels focusing on challenges and​ cooperation. The conference will be held in English with translation into Polish and Japanese.

The conference will be based on a hybrid model with a possibility of attendance on-site or via a video link.
